In the past,
many have claimed to invent the perpetual motion machine but as far as quality and amount of the documentation is concerned,
Orffyreus case is simply the best. Without any shadow of doubt, we can confidently say that Orffyreus' machine was genuine.
For me, it is hard to believe that his invention was a fraud; if I were to believe that Orffyreus machine was a fraud, I would
not believe anymore in my own existence.
In the beginning, I had to rely on the eyewitness accounts of
the Gravesande and other examiners at best, as I had no access to the details of other works that Orffyreus had produced. For example,
Orffyreus wrote his 'Apologia Poetica' and Machinen Tractate in the form of some
parables and drawings respectively with hope that someday someone would be able to decode them to find the secret of the perpetual motion machine. In my pursuit, I have independently carried my own line of
enquiry without having details of Orffyreus’ original works at hand. In 17th volume of EEC series of my books entitled " How
it happened to me?” readers can find the story of my invention.
It is unfortunate that in his own country at present, Orffyreus' remarkable achievement is looked upon as a fraud. Since perpetual motion is a buried subject in science, no evidence is enough to remove the prejudice of scientific community, therefore, in spite of one of the strongest cases of genuine perpetual motion, the opinions of the main stream authors about the perpetual motion of the Orffyreus' wheel offer us nothing to add to our enthusiasm. Moreover,
comments of authors of various books that cover topic of perpetual motion are also equally depressing. Nevertheless, as I have already stated wheel was all there without any flaw and, much one likes to try to discount
it, Orffyreus’ wheel was a marked exception without any doubt. It was a
genuine invention but most of authors attempt to undermine his invention. Despite
good work of John Collins on the life and works of Councilor Orffyreus, tradition of shoddy evaluation goes on. In face of
such weighty facts, why scientists and authors still reject his invention, is not understandable.
However, to some extent, it seems,
Orffyreus himself was responsible for this plight. Orffyreus lacked art of inducing the cooperation of people. Under the burden
of his invention, he lacked skills in social relationships. He inflated his ego even before achieving his goal. He offended
those people who approached him with a desire to find out working of his invention, they got disappointed when Orffyreus bid farewell to them with his parables. How could they expect from Orffyreus to explain
them every detail of working mechanism of machine? How could he satisfy all of them without giving his secret? If he was going to explain each man, everything about his invention, he was running a risk of losing
the great secret for nothing. Layman as well as learned man who were in front
of him with prying eyes and who rose unending questions to him infact expected too much from the Orffyreus and Orffyreus was
not in position to satisfy all of them. Moreover, if he was not going to answer
any thing to them, then naturally he was offending the people for no fault of his own.
Thus, Orffyreus remained in a dilemma forever about what to tell and what not to tell about working of his invention.
When people were not satisfied, they took no time to ridicule his invention as a fraud.
Under such circumstances, it was not possible for him to shut every loud mouth so he was simply helpless to stop enemies
mushrooming around him like the heads of a monstrous Hydra.
Conclusions:
Obsessed and prejudiced fully with conservation of energy principle, unfortunately, many authors attempt to dismiss
the entire evidence, and they consider Orffyreus’ wheel as nothing more than the fraud or trickery. They have not been able to evaluate the valuable evidence impartially.
This is an act of injustice, ignorance, and an inexcusably glib response to a remarkable genuine inventor! And, it
must be deplored in strong terms. Orffyreus must be honored as father of perpetual
motion. Perpetual motion took its move when Orffyreus came to the world with
his genuine invention. He has inspired many individuals to reinvent perpetual
motion machine.
Let me conclude by saying that all evidence is powerful:
·Because of independent corroborating testimony
which has come to us from different persons in different times. Because the accounts were written
immediately after the event or in the presence of the turning wheel. Because perpetual motion machines were constructed in location never before visited
by the Orffyreus. Because conditions of the observations ranged
from good to excellent and didn't allow for fraud of the sort to produce the perpetual motion. Because observers were many and all highly
qualified man. Because investigators had no alliance with
the inventor or a blood relation. Because in a span of 15 years Orffyreus was
never detected in fraud of any kind. Because his machines produced power of a magnitude
that can't be explained away by fraud.
Because to explain the entire array of the machines and its actions as due to conjuring or fraud, we must endow Orffyreus with
an implausible degree of conjuring skill or else with access to technology known to no scientist of his day and present time. Because, even today, to imitate the Orffyreus wheel and program it to run for a period of 40
days with enough power and same functional ability, which it had displayed at the Castle of Weissenstein would require a group
of engineers and energy experts.
Clearly, the entire repertoire of the events
presented by investigators is impressive and pose a challenge to the scientist.
An Ostrich, often shy and weak to face any danger
in front of him, whenever finds a danger in front of him, makes a vain attempt to safe guard him by burying his head into the
ground. In doing so, though he pretends that he is not facing the danger or believes that danger is gone, he is in error,
soon, we know that he would get killed. Scientist must shun this ostrich attitude towards perpetual motion and its powerful evidence that endanger their position and their most sacred laws, they must come forward to accept the challenge. They
must cease to act like an Ostrich.
Orffyreus
could not do well to secure the favorable recognition of scientific world. He
failed to solve disputes amicably and thus could not avert the circumstances that led to an unhappy end. One circumstance, which may have told unfavorably upon the reception of the Orffyreus work in scientific
world, is that he did not mention or credit any predecessor. Orffyreus had no skill in mathematics. Had he put forward his
invention and theory of perpetual motion in a clever manner to label it as a development and demonstration of a Copernican
theory or Galilean theory or proof of Newtonian celestial mechanics or proof of Kepler' laws of motion, then scientist of
his time would have hesitated to call his invention a nonsense completely. Perhaps,
it may be said that Orffyreus lacked sophistication, instinct, or intelligence of a working theoretical scientist.
Deva Ramananda comments:
“Orfyyreus failed
to convince man of science, because neither he had support nor he did exercise any diplomacy or tact to receive their support.
Instead dedicating his book to God, Orffyreus could have better planned to dedicate it either to count Karl or Newton. His
book “Truimpham Orffyreum …” was eulogy about his own invention and himself, libel against his enemies but it didn’t help him much in his mission,
instead he should have written an eulogy on the king or some great contemporary scientist. By drawing a parallel between his
king and God, describing his king as one of the great masters born to bring a new order into the world or by writing hymns
of praise to Newton Orffyreus could have better pleased them to protect his invention. Alas! Orffyreus did not possess skill in human relations and failed to get cooperation
of those with whom he came in contact.”
For a new theory to be successful and acceptable, one needs to credit and applaud first the prevailing theories of
science and their propounders. It is almost mandatory if they are not dead because when alive they are sure to resist the
new thought or the invention because it contradicts their own theories. Probably,
one of the principal reason for the desuetude into which his invention fell is, however the failure of the Orffyreus himself
to induce cooperation of the great man of science living in his time and make any vital connection with them. He largely relied
on help of Leibniz who died prematurely. Moreover, on account of disputes with
Leibniz over calculus, Newton was reluctant to respond Orffyreus in a favorable manner. Orffyreus
did not seek other alternatives. If Newton was unwilling to lend his support because his invention did not fit his theory
and posed a threat to it, Orffyreus could have rushed to Robert Hook to take advantage of his rivalry with Newton but here
too Orffyreus failed in simple diplomacy.
And all was vanity and vexation of his mind, Orffyreus didn't choose to dedicate his work to a single influential
man, as to some knight or king, or Count Karl. Pleased then they could better help Orffyreus, instead he dedicated his work
to God, to the public, to man of learning, and to himself as discoverer. When he was in trouble , no one out of them came forward to take him out of the predicament!
It is tempting to speculate, vain though it be, that what might have been the influence of the perpetual motion
on the science and technology, had great men of science helped Orffyreus to bring his invention to the world.
